The name means south wind, from the Bedouin poem. “And God took a handful of the south wind, breathed on it, and thus created the horse.” Grey is my favorite color on horses, especially the white phase. I spent many hours watching a grey Arabian stallion strut around his corral when I was a child. Memories of his bold demeanor, and joyful leaping and prancing, continually find their way into my paintings. Currently I am working on a painting of a black Arabian stallion, which will eventually make a matched set with El Marees.
